Afonso Tostes has been dedicating himself over the last years to what can be referred as an investigation over structures. The sculptures are done in wood taken from demolitions and construction sites all over town. These pieces are strategically placed on spaces, at each montage giving a different sesation towards support, sustaining and the co-dependence between each part. The "Prédios" series recalls to memory the materials' origins, pieces with a unique pulsation that activates the surrounding spaces thought the antagonism between the raw and the refined, the spontaneous and the erudite. Afonso Tostes has an unquiet production, his sculptures as well as his paintings and drawings never take place in common sense, the artist imprints the speed of the world he lives in; the observation of what would at first go by unattended is to him the prime and fundamental materials.
